UM Certification

Christian Education Administration/Leadership

Certification is the church's recognition that an individual has met the required standards for academic training, experience, and continuing study necessary to achieve and maintain professional excellence. CEF will again offer the opportunity to complete one of the certification courses, in conjunction with the Albuquerque conference, for graduate credit. Students will register as special students through Perkins School of Theology.

This class will focus on the role of the Christian educator in ministry through administration and leadership in local church education, with a focus on leadership styles and the essentials of effective administration.

This class will meet prior to the conference on:

• Tuesday, Oct. 21, 4-8 PM
• Wednesday, Oct. 22, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM
• Thursday, Oct. 23, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM
• Friday, Oct. 24, 8:30 AM - noon
• Tuesday, Oct. 28, 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM

The course instructor, Dr. Susanne Johnson, is associate professor of Christian Education at Southern Methodist University’s Perkins School of Theology. Dr. Johnson, an ordained Disciples of Christ minister, is the author of Christian Spiritual Formation in the Church and Classroom and “Education in the Image of God” in Theological Approaches to Christian Education. She earned her Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary.
